It is one of the “great wonders in all of nature” – rare and nearly impossible to find since since they are so small and well camouflaged looking like a tiny knot in a tree. They are built as “velvety, compact cups with spongy floors and elastic sides that stretch as the young grow. They weave together twigs, plant fibers, and bits of leaves, and use spider silk as threads to bind their nests together and anchor them to the foundation” We should be humbled by the humming bird who build a home that has the elasticity to accommodate growing needs and returns to normal size when young leave the home, enabling ongoing protection. Wow – we have a lot to learn!
