Pseudomembranous colitis is a bacterial infection of the colon, caused by a bacterium called clostridium difficile in the setting of the use of antibiotics and resulting in a severe inflammation of the wall of the bowel. Clinical presentation is with severe diarrhea and abdominal pain.
