lGross photomicrograph of a terminal ileum from a patient with Crohn’s disease. Notice the stricture which tapers to a maximum at the ileocecal valve. Notice also the irregular linear longitudinal ulcers with tufts of remaining mucosa between them. Notice the sharp segmental cutoff to more normal-appearing ileum as you move away from the ileocecal valve. Notice that the bowel wall in the involved area is thickened.
